Dual Laser Treatment Recommended by Kkeuthan Clinic

*Moles are pigmented lesions that develop when melanin pigment becomes excessively abundant in the epidermal or dermal layers of the skin.

Unlike what appears on the surface, treatment methods may vary depending on the depth and location of the mole.

Erbium YAG laser is primarily used for precisely refining the skin surface. When removing shallow moles located in the epidermis, it can gently remove them while minimizing irritation to the surrounding skin.

This procedure can reduce the risk of scarring while offering cosmetic improvement, making it particularly suitable for facial mole removal. Subsequently, the process of using a CO2 laser to thermally treat the root portion of the mole helps reduce the likelihood of recurrence by addressing melanin cells that may remain deep within. This can lower the chances of moles reappearing due to their roots, even after their surface has been removed.

In particular, CO2 laser finishing can be considered in the following situations:

-When the mole appears slightly raised or feels thick to the touch

-If there is a history of moles recurring in the same area

-When diagnosed as a nevus located deep in the dermal layer (e.g., blue moles, grayish moles, etc.)

*Flat warts are skin conditions caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. They typically spread widely in the epidermal layer and can appear as thin, flat, brownish or flesh-colored small lesions. They are more likely to occur when immunity is weakened, and there's a possibility of spreading them to other areas by touching them, making early intervention important.

Erbium YAG laser can be used to uniformly refine the epidermis. It is useful for treating widely spread flat warts

The usefulness of this can be expected when treating them all at once. It can evenly remove the affected area while reducing skin irritation. However, due to the nature of viral lesions, there may be a risk of recurrence if only the visible parts are removed. In such cases, adding a thermal finish with a CO2 laser around the lesion can help reduce the likelihood of recurrence by further treating remaining virus-infected cells in and around the epidermal layer.

In these cases, combining CO2 laser finishing can be an important consideration:

-When the lesion's borders are indistinct, or it feels broad and flat to the touch, or for individuals with weakened immunity (e.g., due to stress, lack of sleep, etc.)

-If there's a history of multiple recurrences

-If the lesion is located in an area with frequent contact, such as hands or face, or in a location where the virus can easily spread

*Milia are small, white, sac-like lesions that form when keratin (a type of skin protein) accumulates under the skin. They are primarily observed around the eyes, cheeks, and forehead, and unlike sebaceous cysts, they are a cosmetic concern unrelated to infection or inflammation.

Erbium YAG laser can be usefully employed for milia removal. It precisely refines the skin surface to remove the thin epidermal part of the milium and creates an egress for safely discharging the trapped keratin. Light finishing with a CO2 laser after the procedure can help reduce the possibility of residual keratinocytes regenerating and prevent milia from reappearing in the same location. However, excessive heat stimulation to the skin can cause hyperpigmentation, requiring precise intensity control.

Combining CO2 laser finishing is particularly useful in the following cases:

-When milia repeatedly occur in the same location

-If there's a history of lesions protruding again during the recovery process after treatment

-When seeking a more even skin texture during recovery after removing multiple milia

*Syringoma is a benign skin lesion that appears due to the excessive proliferation of sweat glands (eccrine glands) in the dermal layer. It is typically characterized by multiple small, bead-like bumps felt under the eyes, on the cheeks, and forehead. It can be influenced by genetics or is relatively common in women in their 20s and 30s.

Erbium YAG laser can precisely and delicately treat the epidermis, making it useful for syringoma treatment in sensitive areas like around the eyes. It refines the skin surface while removing the upper part of the sweat gland lesions, and after recovery, there is less concern about scarring or pigmentation, promising good cosmetic results. Subsequently, applying heat with a CO2 laser

The finishing process, which involves applying subtle stimulation to the deeper parts of the lesion, can help reduce the activity of sweat glands within the dermis.

This can significantly contribute to preventing syringomas from recurring in the same area. However, it's good to be aware that multiple treatment sessions may be required due to the depth of the lesions.

Applying CO2 laser finishing together in the following situations can help improve outcomes:

-When multiple syringomas are relatively deeply embedded under the eyes or on the cheeks

-If there's a history of recurrence despite having received multiple laser treatments

-When aiming to maximize the recurrence prevention effect with a single treatment

*Skin tags are benign skin lesions caused by the excessive proliferation of fibrous tissue and blood vessels in the dermal layer. They typically appear as small, skin-colored protrusions in areas where skin rubs together, such as the neck, armpits, under the breasts, and eyelids. They are painless but can become irritated by friction with clothing or the surrounding environment. Generally, CO2 laser is more effectively used for skin tag removal, as its excellent cutting ability and hemostatic effect allow for rapid treatment of multiple lesions. However, for small and thin skin tags, precisely ablating the lesion first with an Erbium YAG laser, followed by finishing the base of the lesion with a CO2 laser, is useful for managing the root tissue and can help reduce the likelihood of recurrence in that area. Thermal stimulation can help regulate fibrous cells and microvessels within the tissue, inhibiting an environment conducive to regrowth.

It is advisable to always combine CO2 laser finishing in the following cases:

-When skin tags are located in areas with frequent friction, such as the neck or armpits

-If there's a history of skin tags reappearing in the same area after removal

-When the root of the lesion is deep and widely spread (a type where a remnant may still feel thick after removal)

Thus, considering the depth and characteristics of the lesion,

applying two types of laser treatments together,

‘Dual Laser Treatment’

can be an important approach that contributes to increasing treatment satisfaction.

What is the recommended duration for applying Duoderm (regenerative patch) after mole removal?

Mole removal procedures involve shaving off the outer layer of the skin, which causes physical irritation to the skin.

Therefore, it is very important to properly protect and care for the treated area.

Maintaining a moist environment, especially to prevent the treated area from drying out, can help promote faster recovery and reduce the likelihood of scar formation.

For this kind of care, we recommend applying a hydrocolloid Duoderm dressing.

Duoderm helps keep the wound area appropriately moist, contributing to cell regeneration and suppressing scab formation, which can help reduce the possibility of scarring.

It is recommended to apply Duoderm immediately after mole removal and replace it every 3-5 days, continuing care for at least 7 days.

We recommend a total care period of approximately 10 days.

If using Duoderm is difficult or an allergic reaction occurs, you should consistently apply a regenerative cream or moisturizing gel to prevent dryness. Additionally, it is necessary to diligently use sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher and to manage the treated area carefully, avoiding touching it with your hands.

Post-mole removal care is not just about protecting the treated area; it is an important process that can influence the final outcome.

Neglecting aftercare may lead to scarring, so it is advisable to continue paying close attention even after the procedure.

Our medical institution provides detailed guidance on post-procedure care to help patients recover quickly and healthily.

When the procedure may be recommended

  • 1. Individuals who have had skin concerns such as moles, seborrheic keratosis, milia, syringomas, or skin tags.

  • 2. Cases where moles have reappeared after removal.
